Purpose
- To make it easy for chapters to create and maintain high quality
websites quickly and inexpensively with all the benefits that come from having them.
- To promote standardization of certain procedures, especially
financial, to make the work of alumni volunteers easier. It is hoped that this will
attract more alumni into volunteer service.
- To enable the TKE chapters in the Carolinas to learn from each other
and to coordinate activities, especially activities that are too expensive for one chapter
to support alone.
- To raise the quality of TKE's presentation of itself in the
Carolinas.
Fundamentals that Each Chapter Must Have
- Alumni board and chapter advisor to promote continuity, provide
expertise, and ensure adherence to standards.
- Standard financial, and other, procedures and reports to make it
easier for both undergraduates and alumni to quickly determine the chapter's state.
- Member database accessible on-line to support alumni activity and
interaction among alumni and undergraduates.
- Member recruitment and education programs that help chapters attract
and retain members who will 1) behave responsibly, especially with respect to liability
issues, 2) take seriously their obligations to their chapters, and 3) remain active and
involved constructively until graduation before joining the ranks of contributing alumni.
- Vision and mission statements that define the role of the chapter on
its campus and in its community.
The TKE Carolinas Infrastructure Project Will Provide
- Web hosting for chapter and alumni sites that will be maintained
regardless of the status of the chapter or its webmaster.
- Templates for website design to provide a uniform structure and high
quality appearance to all TKE Carolinas sites while providing support for each chapter to
customize its site to reflect its own character.
- Scripts supporting discussion boards, photo albums, etc.
- Support for accepting credit card payment of bills.
- List service to support communication among chapter officers, alumni,
etc.
- Procedures for reporting rush, financial, philanthropic work, etc.
easily so that alumni volunteers can more closely monitor the status of chapters.
What the Infrastructure Project Is Not
- An alumni association. It merely provides the means by which
alumni may more easily organize themselves into associations.
- A governing or advising body. It provides a means by which the
alumni volunteers can do their work more easily and better.
- A source, per se, of information about chapters. It's up to the
chapters to provide information about themselves using the services provided.
